Hello again, Dimensionerds! If you check the Rift forums on a regular basis, you may have noticed a new contest thread, announcing Cozy Cottages 2, sponsored by yours truly, the DTC! I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ocho, Community Manager, for assisting us yet again with some fantastic prizes to give away–3 mounts, and 3-30 Day Patron Passes. Wow!
Below you can find a copy of the entire post. We’re more than happy to answer questions here left in the comments, but all entries will be submitted on the Rift Forums.
We look forward to a fun contest, and seeing what the community comes up with! I know the last time, builders across the community made for a very challenging contest to judge, and this time we await an even greater challenge.
It’s that time again! The Dimension Touring Co. is proud to sponsor Cozy Cottages 2, from now until Friday, 18 March, 2016.
The Challenge: At its heart, dimensions are player housing. Of course, the house doesn’t have to be your character’s house–build a house for anyone/thing you choose!
Dates: This contest will end at 1200 (Noon) PST on Friday, 18 March 2016, with the winners announced no later than 1200 (Noon) PST Friday, 25 March 2016. Entries posted after the closing time and date of Noon PST on Friday, 18 March 2016 will not be accepted.
Here <– is a link for a time zone converter.
The Prizes: Thanks to Ocho and Trion for supporting the community with additional, fantastic prizes!
1st Place Prize is 5 REX and 1 Primal Khadling Mount
2nd Place Price: 3 REX and 1 4th Anniversary Arclight Rider
3rd Place Price: 2 REX and 1 4th Anniversary Arclight Rider
In addition to the above prizes, there will also be 3 Judge’s Choice Awards, for 1 REX and a 30-Day Patron Pass each.
This contest is open to all shards, EU and NA.
This contest is for personal dimensions only. Guild dimensions will not be accepted.
Any personal dimension may be used for the contest, but all entries must contain 2000 items or less.
This contest is for new builds only. Tearing down an existing dimension for use is permitted.
Collaborative entries will not be accepted.
Dimensions with public spaces (parks, shops, etc) included will be considered, as long as the overall item count of 2000 items or less is maintained. All parts of the entered dimension will be judged.
The focal point of the contest is housing. What kind of house build and where you choose to locate it is entirely up to you.
Dimensions must be closed to the public until judging begins on 18 March 2016.
Entries must be open for judging no later than 1200 PST on 18 March, 2016, and remain open through the announcement of the winner. Any dimension not open by the closing date will be disqualified from judging.
Shared Toolbox sets may NOT be used for entries. However, please feel free to share your sets after the contest is over! Entries that contain shared sets will be disqualified. Entries that contain egregious copies of others’ work (with or without permission) will be disqualified.
The use of add-ons (Toolbox, DT, etc), is permitted.
One entry per person.
Interior builds (entirely enclosed) are permitted, however, they may not score as highly as an entry that has a completed interior and exterior.
The Catch: Premade pieces are NOT allowed for use in the primary structure, with the exception of stairs and floor tiles. What does that mean? It means it’s time to use up all those building blocks minions have brought back! Atypical materials (Gloamwood Logs, Wine Pools, Haystacks, etc) and standard building blocks (planks, tiles, poles, triangles, discs, etc) are permitted for your primary structure. Wood and Stone Corner Posts are permitted, as are Trophy facades.
What’s allowed for constructing the house?
Pre-Made Walls, in all their varieties are NOT permitted.
Pre-Made Windows–using windows in the construction of cabinets, fireplaces, shelving and other interior furniture is permitted, NOT in the construction of the house itself.
Rooftops, Roof Corners and Roof Panels–using these pieces as part of interior furniture morphs is permitted, but not as part of the finished structure.
Doors and Door Frames–as with the windows, using doors to morph interior furnishings is permitted, but not as part of the finished structure.
The Dimension Entry Point and PvP Banners and Start Points are permitted if you choose to use those to save on item count.
Entire pre-made buildings (mausoleums, taverns, houses, etc): These items are permitted as part of a morph. For example, if you wish to roof your house with a morph of Bogling Houses, this is permitted. Entering a furnished Bogling House is not.
Quality of construction. Unless intentional, gaps, flicker and mismatches should be avoided.
Proportions: This includes ceiling height, furnishings, and any miscellaneous details you choose to add. If you build a house for the Giant in Jack and the Beanstalk, everything should be sized appropriately.
Details: This is a morph-driven contest, and attention to detail matters. Are your rooms furnished? Does the furnishing make sense in keeping with the rest of the theme for the house? How much of the overall project was morphed?
Originality: Were atypical materials used in the construction of roof/walls/doors/windows? Was the design of the house unique in overall appearance?
Theme Cohesion: How well does the house suit the theme (i.e, if you want to recreate 1313 Mockingbird Lane, does it look like the Munsters would live there)?
Aesthetic Appeal: Does the house flow with your chosen background, whether you choose to do a transformation or build your house in an unadorned dimension?
All judges are aware of potential graphical glitches and will conduct all judging tours on highest possible settings. No judge will be using the Jete’s Jumpmaster item, so one should not be required to tour your dimension.
Submissions: All entries must be submitted no later than Noon PST, 18 March 2016. Entries submitted after Noon PST on Friday, 18 March 2016 will not be considered or accepted. Entries over 2000 pieces will be disqualified. All entries must have the following information:
Character Name (annotate if there is a primary character that we should contact instead)
You may include a brief synopsis or background story if you choose. However, this is not necessary.
All entries must be submitted to the forums. Entries submitted through PM over the forums, through in-game mail, or via the DTC Feedback page will not be accepted. If you’ve been lurking, now’s the time to say hi! You can, however, PM DimensionDiva or myself (Feendish) at any time to ask questions that you may not be comfortable putting on the thread, we’re happy to answer.
