Hello again, Dimensionerds! I’ve been deep into the PTS the past couple of weeks, fishing, questing and trying to craft, all in the effort to dig out whatever dimension items are to be found.
And, after all of this, all I can say is…WOW.
Before we get too deeply into this exploration, let me issue the standard disclaimer. Nothing on the PTS is guaranteed to make it to live servers. Everything on the PTS is subject to change. Prices for items on the PTS are not set in stone (some might be, but others are placeholder).
My advice is to start stockpiling crafting marks now, if you already haven’t been. Even if you’ve capped Grandmaster Marks and Master Marks, complete crafting dailies now not just for the extra plat, but to stockpile Artisan Marks, because all professions have recipe costs like that shown above. That way, after the expansion hits, you can do those dailies to recoup your higher level marks and not have to worry too much about the Artisan Marks.
It’s already been stated that the caps for Grandmaster and Master crafting marks will not increase.
As of this writing, most of the items gated by Notoriety have not been added to the specific zone vendors, they are currently on the PTS vendor by the main porticulum in Tempest Bay. On this vendor is a jaw-dropping array of items, that require Notoriety ranging from Friendly to Revered, with each of the various Starfall Prohecy factions.
Since all items on the vendor currently only show a credit cost, I have not purchased even the items I have unlocked, and I don’t advocate anyone spending credits on the PTS…ever. Tacitus has stated that the items available from Notoriety will have a credit cost and a cost in alternate currencies, such as the new Celestial Remnants. This change should go out in an update this week–as in Monday or Tuesday, but I couldn’t wait to share!
Notoriety turn in is currently on the PTS, with the turn-in location being in the hub city of Alittu. I recommend running IA’s and zone events now, to stockpile those Marks of Notoriety and Commendations of Renown. Once you’re over the caps of 250 and 50, simply send stacks out to alts to hold.
Planar Defense Force and Mages of Alittu are only available to turn in at the Mark of Notoriety daily. All others, from the questing zones, can be spammed.
If you flipped through all 40 (!) slides, you no doubt noticed a few things. Yes, porticulums have become dimension items! They do not actually work, but they do have the effects–Tacitus says making functional portals is on the list, but not until 4.1 or later. You may have also noticed that naming seems to have changed. The numerical modifiers at the end (01, 04, etc) are to indicate different variations of the same rock type, so that we have matched sets. Rather than come up with a bunch of words that mean basically the same thing, the numbers simplify things.
The notoriety items by themselves give us as much stuff as we got with Nightmare Tide, but there’s still more. In addition to the keys that are craftable with Dreamweaving, recipes have made their way to the trainers and include items like crafting nodes (for looks, not functional), building pieces like that shown and a Word of Power that used to be in a lockbox.
Autumn Harvest just ended, so I hope that you were able to farm up some dream ribbons! Salvaging artifacts does not give more ribbons with the increased skill, and Tacitus has stated that he will not increase the output from breaking shinies. I had some Skill Spheres on PTS and I popped one to level Dreamweaving, so that it wasn’t too painful.
In addition to the crafted items and Notoriety items, world drops are a thing again! Old world dimension drops are back working again, and now there are new world drops, depending on the zone you’re in. The big red and blue rock dropped for me in Ashenfell, and the two smaller green rocks dropped in Scatherran Forest, so it doesn’t even seem like the drops are particularly rare–which is a good thing!
As of this writing, fish aren’t in the world yet, so there’s no testing whether regular fishing drops are working or not. However, there has been a ton of talk about Uncle Stan’s Super Secret Lure and how he’s much improved. My PTS character doesn’t have the lure, but I do have Uncle Stan’s Dyna Therm Fishin’ Pole. There are numerous dimensions on PTS that display Uncle Stan drops, in addition to my own, which is simply called Starfall Dimension Stuff, owned by Feenesh.
In addition to the changes to Uncle Stan’s Super Secret Lure, the Affinity Lures now also reflect the changed loot table. My loot is all from the Lure of the Cosmos (eight Affinity) and Uncle Stan’s Infra-Cell Lure (16 Affinity). With the more expensive lure, there are two items per cast, but they do share loot tables for the most part. The 16 point lure also reportedly has a super rare key you can fish up.
The best part? Both Affinity lures work on Stan’s Dyna-Therm Fishin’ Pole, so you can save a ton of Affinity points if you–like my PTS alt–have the pole but not the lure.
Please keep in mind that all of these special lures are NOT guaranteed to give dimension items. There is still a chance at wardrobe and pets. But the Notoriety tokens and store dimension items have gone the way of the dodo, to our everlasting relief.
The store itself has had some new items, such as the rocks and banners shown above. There are also a couple of new trees (new to me, I’ve never seen them before) and Snowy Grass (which is very, very small). The items that were available through minions and old lockboxes are now on the store, such as Tall Ashoran Mountainsides, the Unlit Striped Brazier, and these signs:
There are other items that are now also available only via minions, but I’m honestly not certain enough about that loot table to include any of those images, so I’ll err on the side of caution and leave them out. But there are a couple of final things…
And here’s what they look like:
Also, be sure to check the fishing trainer, there are some dimension items on the trainer!
On the next Tips ‘n Tricks Live!, Audz and I will be back on the PTS, to explore the items in depth, and ways to get them. Along the way, I might (okay, probably will) share my opinions about the Starfall Prophecy story line (I liked it, overall), planar fragments, and zones (Ashenfell can fall straight off the face of Telara and I would be okay with that).
As launch approaches, PTS updates are happening daily. I never thought I would say this, but I’m looking forward to fishing, and I’m REALLY looking forward to the Notoriety grind!
Until next time…
Happy Building, and Happy Touring!
